Little Mountain
We had a tower to climb in Little Mountain, SC. Our mission was to replace an antenna and 7/8" coaxial cable. This was the tower, 350 feet to the top.
There is really a greater distance between the cellular antennae array and the top than appears.
Here is the base of the tower. You can see the rope that we use to haul stuff up the tower hanging to right (yellow).
There goes the first guy.
It's probably the most difficult structure I've ever climbed. That's not me above, though.
You probably wonder what the ground crew is doing in the mean time. This pic shows that most of the time, they look up the tower in fond admiration (HA HA!).
I didn't take any pictures on my climb to the cell array, but here's a few shots when I got there.
A real bird's eye view of the scenery. Below is looking back at the ground crew. You can see the tip of my boot in the bottom of the picture.
Cool as a cucumber, right? Actually, the array was rather comfortable.
And a couple random shots, all of which were taken from the array.
I've been to the top of this tower before, but I was glad to just take a picture this time!!! A LONG way to go!
Here's a self-portrait. Pardon my hair - I had to wear a hardhat. But still, if you had to climb that tower, your hair would get messed up, hardhat or no.
Conceited, I know. But nobody was there to take it for me!

We found your blog! :)
I like your profile picture. Is it the "Vernon Family Crest"?
Picture #5 (from the top)is simply stunning. I don't know if you are able but it would be really, really, really neat if you could take a sunset picture.

Oh, well. So much for secrecy. I forgot that you would have a direct link to my blog. You weren't supposed to look at it until I said you could :(.
The really scary pic is the one of the ground crew. (LOL)
In the next chapter you'll see me in my harness. It's a tank job where Jacob and I set the probe controls. I just took the picture CD to work this morning, but didn't have time to post.
Later, filthy animals.

It is high, but you get used to it.
Thanks-s-s for the comments.
Yes, Mama knows. They came down to see me climb one job we did on a tank. Dad has some of it on video.
Yes, that's the Vernon family coat of arms. I am not usually hanging on tower at sunset. I might take pictures of that when I go back to Williamsburg. I will be posting pix of that tank later on. Very big tank!
Gotta go, getting a little sleepy. TTFN.
